IB Advice

Eunho Lee

IB is renowned as one of the most rigorous educational programs, and many students often feel overwhelmed by the constant pressure of exams, assignments, and extracurricular commitments. And unfortunately, ASB offers it! So, how can we maintain our balance during these demanding school semesters?

Prioritise sound sleep

In the pursuit of academic excellence, sleep is often sacrificed. I know you also believe that pulling all-nighters and cramming last-minute information will lead to better results. This may work in the short run, but later on you will definitely regret this habit. Sleeping helps you absorb information much more effectively and efficiently, and you can retain information for longer!

Review, Review, Review

Although it may sound typical, reviewing the material you're being tested on multiple times is crucial for becoming familiar with it. Have you ever felt confused, as if you had never learned what the test questions were asking? I guess we all have experienced the stress of sweating during exams and regret not studying enough the night before. Then why not consider studying a little bit each day? Regular review helps you get accustomed to the content, reducing the chance of being perplexed by the test questions.

Pomodoro study

The Pomodoro Technique is a study method that breaks your study time into focused intervals (typically 50 minutes), followed by a short 10-minute break, making each study session one hour. The set time limit helps you focus on a single task without distractions. Knowing that a break is coming makes it easier to resist the urge to check social media or get sidetracked, allowing you to maintain concentration throughout the session. Also, if you need a timer, you can utilize Pomodoro study videos on YouTube, there are tons!

Going-Out Schedule!

Like we have set periods of time to study, it is also important to set time aside to go out! We are in the last years of our school life, and it goes by faster than you expect! You must prioritize your academics right now. However, you should go out with your friends at least once a month, so you don’t get consumed with school. It is important to try your best in school right now, but also keep in mind that you need to reboot and remember who you are beyond your academics. (Eunho didn’t like this part🙄)

Ultimately, studying and sacrificing fun times can be extremely trying, I know it is really hard! However, the immense effort you invest goes beyond simply acquiring knowledge. Moments spent studying are an opportunity to explore new ideas and gain skills that will benefit you in the future. Keep in mind that the chance to study is a privilege not everyone has, and while it may be tough, it offers invaluable life lessons throughout the journey.
